Small Business Saturday: UWM Edition
Each year, the Saturday after Thanksgiving marks the traditional American shopping holiday Small Business Saturday. This year, we wanted to not only encourage you to shop locally, but to highlight some Milwaukee-based businesses owned by UWM students and alumni. Check out the list below to learn more about these small businesses and how you can support them this Small Business Saturday!
Halo Soap — Stacie Cherubini, Class of 2007
Stacie Cherubini started making soap while attending UWM, selling online and at farmers markets. Shortly after school, Cherubini had the opportunity to open her first store front and has now been making skin care products for over 17 years. Cherubini is continually working to expand her product line and knowledge of health-conscious choices for skin care ingredients. La Fleur Bouquets — May Allan, Class of 2022
Created by a current UWM student, La Fleur Bouquets offers a variety of flower arrangements and gift boxes made for any occasion with delivery available. Orders can be placed via Instagram direct messages at the account linked above.
Shelby Page Ceramics — Shelby Page, Class of 2016
Shelby Page has been making functional and simple forms by hand on a potter’s wheel since graduating in 2016. These forms range from mugs to high rimmed plates to wine chillers and more. To shop Shelby Page Ceramics, take a look at her website or Etsy page!
The Loom House — Hemad Fadaifar, Class of 2008
Hemad Fadaifar, a UWM alum, world traveler, entrepreneur and rug enthusiast, founded The Loom House, which offers consumers a carefully curated collection of rugs that are “not only unique but living and breathing works of art that elevate a space.” Shop The Loom House this Small Business Saturday at the link above.
Orchard Street Press — Julie and Whitney Teska, Class of 2003 and 2004
What is typically an environmentally harmful industry, Orchard Street Press has focused on a breaking the pollution cycle from screen printing and worked to provide its customers with high quality and environment friendly screen printing in the Milwaukee area. Additionally, in 2011, Orchard Street Press launched their own product line featuring clothing and accessories for men, women, and children which can be found in a handful of Wisconsin boutiques and the Orchard Street Press Etsy shop.
414loral — Mikel McGee, Class of 2015
414loral started in UWM alumnus Mikel McGee’s kitchen and has since expanded to a storefront location located on MLK Dr in Historic Bronzeville. 414loral focuses on investing in the Milwaukee community and fostering connections through floral design. Indulgence Chocolatiers — Julie Waterman, Class of 2007
Indulgence Chocolatiers has locations around Milwaukee in Walker’s Point, East Tosa and Shorewood, where talented chocolatiers such as UWM alumnus and Indulgence Chocolatiers owner, Julie Waterman, handcrafts confections with no artificial preservations or mass production. Stop and order a sweet treat this Small Business Saturday at one of their locations or on their website.
Anodyne Coffee — Matthew McClutchy, Class of 1992
Anodyne Coffee Roasting Company is a small batch roaster, locally owned by UWM alum, Matthew McClutchy. Born in 1999, Anodyne Coffee Roasting Company now has four locations in Milwaukee — Walkers Point, Milwaukee Public Market, Wauwatosa and Bay View.
Good City Brewing — Dan Katt, Class of 2019
Eager to contribute to Milwaukee’s rich beer heritage, UWM alumnus and co-founder Dan Katt, started Good City Brewing in 2016. Focused on “lasting friendships, a love of great beer, taking risks and a commitment to seeking the good of the community,” Good City Brewing continues to expand across Milwaukee with current locations in the Deer District, Wauwatosa and the East Side.
Three Cellars — Gino Gaglianello, Class of 2011
Three Cellars, a unique artisan wine and craft beer bar, owned by UWM alum, Gino Gaglianello, offers a special experience for everyone from the casual drinker to the connoisseur. Not only does Three Cellars offer a constantly rotating selection, but also fun tastings and events for customers at their Menomonee Falls location.
Sweet Little Box Co — Sam Wisneski, Class of 2019
Sweet Little Box Co was started by UWM alumnus, Sam Wisneski, on Etsy. As customer expectations were exceeded again and again, the business grew big enough to serve corporate clients, including Google and Wells Fargo, but small enough hand make each product with care. They offer gift boxes for any occasion, along with handmade candles, soaps and more.
Peanut Butter & Jelly Deli — Michael Hottinger, Class of 1992
Owned by UWM alum Michael Hottinger, Peanut Butter and Jelly Deli is Wisconsin’s only shop dedicated to all things PBJ. With locally baked breads, homemade nut butters and over 100 locally and regionally made jelly, the Peanut Butter and Jelly Deli offers classic and gourmet sandwiches along with other specialty foods and treats that feature a peanut butter and jelly combination.
Donut Squad — Bobby Kaid and Moe Dakwar, Class of 2017
UWM alumni Bobby Kaid and Moe Dakwar found a gap in the Milwaukee food market — donuts. The Donut Squad was born on the East Side of Milwaukee and has most recently expanded to downtown Waukesha. Take a look at all their delicious flavors!
