10 Things to look forward to post-graduation
Congratulations class of 2018! All of the hard work and long nights have paid off and you’re finally graduating. You’re sure to feel nostalgic looking back on the great memories and valuable lessons you’ve gained at UWM, but be sure to also look ahead. Check out these 10 things to get excited about post-graduation!
1. Enjoying more free time
Now that you’re graduating, your evenings and weekends will no longer be dedicated to homework and studying. Enjoy the extra hours, and use them wisely!
2. Keeping your UWM email
Don’t fret! Your UWM email will not be deactivated until you’ve been graduated for an entire semester — just the right amount of time to transfer any important account information to a new email address.
3. Seeing the world
Before starting your next full-time commitment, take some time to get out of town and explore. Whether it’s a short roadtrip or an international journey, you won’t regret taking the time off to do it!
4. Joining the UWM Alumni Association
All UWM grads automatically become members of the UWM Alumni Association, a network of over 182,000 graduates! Use these connections to your benefit and get to know Panthers from the past and present.
5. Pursuing your passions
Throughout college, much of your career is planned out for you depending on what major you choose. Post-college, the plan is whatever you make it! Make time to pursue what you love, in your professional career and in life.
6. Binge-watching your favorite shows
From Saturday-morning cartoons to Sunday-morning graduation, re-watching all your favorite shows is sure to make you nostalgic. Sit back and enjoy the classics after commencement with a bag of popcorn, you deserve it!
6. Getting a free Gold Meir Library membership
Once you’re officially a UWM grad, you won’t have student library privileges anymore… But you will be able to join the Friends of the UWM Golda Meir Library for free for one year! It’s just like student library privileges without being a student.
7. Reading a book that isn’t assigned for a class
In college, there’s not much time for leisurely reading because you’re already assigned so much reading for classes. Now that you’re out, read for fun! Check out the best-sellers list and finally chill out with a good book.
9. Taking more naps
It’s easy to rush full-speed into the next big thing after graduation, but make sure to leave room for naps, seriously! Catch up on the sleep you’ve been missing from pulling all-nighters in college!
10. Continuing to learn
Whether you take a local cooking class, teach yourself how to play an instrument or come back to UWM for a class or two, push yourself to go beyond. There’s so much to discover, in Milwaukee and the world. Never stop learning, class of 2018!
With your diploma in hand and future ahead of you, we couldn’t be more proud, Panthers! Congratulations again, graduates!
